Dr. Michael T. Wiltsey

Michael T. Wiltsey, Ph.D. is a Licensed Psychologist in New Jersey and Pennsylvania who first started working with Dr. Atkins as a graduate student in 2003 and currently is an associate at the practice. Dr. Wiltsey has a vast amount of experience conducting a broad range of forensic psychological evaluations in criminal, family, and civil court matters. Dr. Wiltsey has conducted and/or assisted with hundreds of forensic psychological evaluations.

Regarding criminal matters, he has experience in conducting evaluations in numerous areas, including but not limited to issues of competence to stand trial, competence to waive Miranda, voluntariness of statements/confessions, interrogative suggestibility, taint issues and reliability of children’s testimony, mental state at the time of the offense (i.e., insanity), sentencing evaluations, mitigation evaluations, violence risk assessments, and sexually violent predator evaluations.

In addition, Dr. Wiltsey has conducted various forensic psychological evaluations for Family Court matters, including Parental Capacity Evaluations, Child Neglect and/or Abuse cases and Termination of Parental Rights cases. Dr. Wiltsey has also conducted forensic psychological evaluations in civil matters, including but not limited to tort and liability cases, guardianship, independent medical examinations, and other legal matters.

As a therapist, Dr. Wiltsey provides skillful cognitive-behavioral therapy, strongly valuing the importance of utilizing empirically supported treatments for psychological problems. Dr. Wiltsey has expertise in treating a variety of clinical disorders.

Dr. Wiltsey holds a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Specializing in Forensic Psychology, from Drexel University and an M.A. in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He has provided psychological services in numerous clinical sites, including corrections, psychiatric emergency screening, a state psychiatric hospital, and outpatient settings. He has presented workshops at meetings, served as faculty at the graduate level, and has published in the peer-reviewed journal, American Journal of Forensic Psychology.

Dr. Wiltsey is a member of professional associations, including the American Psychological Association, American Psychological Association, Division 41, American Psychology – Law Society, and the Society for Police and Criminal Psychology.
